Turning Twenty Four

May 22, 2010
by Ann

The weekend saw a whirlwind of birthday celebrations as I’m now officially one step closer to being “a quarter of a century old”. It was lovely to be able to spend precious time over the weekend individually with Jamie, the sisters, family and girlfriends over various get-togethers. Friday kicked off with a romantic dinner with J, at The Point, which followed by a movie at the cinemas after. I saw most of Saturday’s morning in bed, as my two sisters refused to let me out of the room till they finished preparing my surprise birthday breakfast / cake. (: We then met up with the rest of the family at Sofitel Mellbourne, the Atrium Bar, for some pre-dinner drinks and entree.. before Jamie, the best boyfriend in the world, surprised me with a birthday dinner party he had planned a month in advance! Sunday, I caught up with my girls over high tea at the Werribee Mansion- It was so delightful to be away from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne city, and get together as a bunch of girlfriends over freshly baked scones, girly chit chats, coffee and tea. Special thanks to Criss who went around town scouting for the “perfect bag to match my boots” after J casually mentioned that I was looking for a bag to match my tan boots! All in all, I certainly couldn’t have thought of a more splendid way to turn twenty four. Thank you all for the emails, calls, smses, cards and presents- It means alot to me!

Derek and Cheryl’s Wedding

May 18, 2010

It seems like such a long time ago (by long, i do mean ages ago, before i even moved to Canberra to pursue my Masters!), when Derek and I used to lead a cell group in Melbourne. Back then, he had just started to get to know Cheryl who was leaving Melbourne for good, and I even remember the night we all got together to pray for Derek at cell group, for clarity from God as to whether he should take the leap of faith to begin a long-distance relationship. So much has happened since then- fast track three years on, after Derek’s big move to Singapore for Cheryl, here they are, back in Melbourne, newly wed! Congrats!

Sharlene’s Birthday Lunch

My closest cousin, Sharlene, turned 24 last week. The Werribee Mansion, being one of my favourite places in Melbourne, came top on the list when I was asked to suggest a place for lunch- so, Joseph’s Restaurant at the Werribee Mansion it was! We celebrated her birthday with family and close friends over a cosy and intimate lunch, then wrapped up the day with cutting “Mandi’s special lactose intolerant cake” for Shar at home. Blessed Birthday Shar- Hope you enjoyed your first birthday as a Mrs Khuu!

Ivy’s Birthday Breakfast

Ivy’s birthday was celebrated this morning over breakfast at Three Bag’s Full. She is one girlfriend I absolutely adore, one that has been an amazing blessing to my life. When I first moved back to Melbourne last year, not only did she put me up at her place for half a year (this was her newly married home by the way), she also prepared breakfast, packed lunch and cooked dinner for me every day of the working week! She and Steve make an awesome couple, and are one of the most generous people I know. Their newest addition to the family, baby Zachariah, is by far the cutest, littlest, cuddliest, most-pinchable-on-the-cheeks tiny tot. Life in Melboure would not be the same without you and your kickass culinary skills, Ives. Love lots!

Easter with Family

Easter Sunday was well spent with the family- We had our morning church service at PlanetShakers, then headed down to Port Melbourne for a Fish and Chip lunch. I have no pictures of the day, but pinched a VIDEO off Vinh (Shar’s newly married husband!) on facebook. Yes.. that free-spirited one in there, would be my (older) sister, deprived from days out like these because of lengthy shifts at the hospital. There she is, putting away her white coat, relishing her long weekend away from work! From what I gather off family dinner conversations between cousin Alex and her- junior doctors here in Australia have no life. But even still, they love their job! Crazy, did I hear you say? We could debate on forever, but I strongly believe in a good work-life balance! On to Easter Monday, my sisters and I got together with some friends for a picnic down at Lygon Street to enjoy the fabulous weather before the dreary winter sets in. We spread out the picnic mats, poured out the wine, and soaked in the sun. Ahh, bliss. Happy Easter everyone!
